This space is part of the itinerary of meetings with which CELAM accompanies the Churches of Latin America and the Caribbean in the reading and application of the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality. Each session takes a number from the document and brings it to the concrete ground of pastoral life in the territories.
On this occasion, the starting point is number 107, which proposes the regular celebration of Ecclesial Assemblies at different levels of the Church. The underlying question is how to move from the Assembly as an exceptional event to the Assembly as part of the ordinary rhythm of pastoral walking.
A periodicity that ensures the regularity of the Assembly
The meeting aims, first of all, to define the periodicity with which the Pastoral Assembly should be held, so that its regularity is ensured in the pastoral journey of the Dioceses, the Parishes, and the various forms of ecclesial organization.
Along with the frequency, we will seek to determine what the moments of ecclesial life are in the Dioceses, in the Parishes, and in other forms of organization present in the most opportune territories to convene and hold a Pastoral Assembly.
The profile of the Assembly: discern, project, decide, and account
Finally, we will seek to determine the profile of the Pastoral Assembly as an organism of discernment, projection of pastoral action, decision-making, and evaluation and accountability. Clearly defining these functions allows the Assembly to be a true space of co-responsibility and not just another informational meeting.
