Where does the commitment of the Latin American Church to justice come from? How did it relate to indigenous peoples and the State? What happened in Medellín and why does it continue to mark the way? To answer these questions, a list of dates is not enough: one must read the texts that marked history and understand why they were written.
This is what the Cebitepal Theological Center of Celam proposes with this course, which is part of the closing cycle of the 2026 academic year. The idea is simple: to know the path traveled to read more clearly the challenges of mission and synodality today.
A concrete proposal for your pastoral reality
The course is supported by the Knowledge Management Center (CGC) of CELAM and does not aim to train programmers, but responsible users. With the support of teachers and peers, each participant designs a pastoral or catechetical proposal that incorporates AI thoughtfully in their own context. The journey ends with a joint webinar of the teaching team.
It is designed for pastoral agents, catechists, educators, religious men and women, seminarians, and committed laypeople. No prior technical knowledge is required.
Who guides the course?
At the forefront is Heriberto Cabrera Reyes, SDB, doctor in Practical Theology from Université Laval, specialist in pastoral care and catechesis, and researcher on the use of artificial intelligence in that field.
The team is completed by María Elizabeth de los Ríos, master in Bioethics from Universidad Anáhuac and doctor in Philosophy from Universidad Iberoamericana, both in Mexico.
Finally, Luis Jiménez Rodríguez, SJ, doctor in Fundamental Theology from Université Catholique de Louvain and in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, a profile that combines theology, engineering, and ethics.
