Cebitepal invites you to the eighth virtual meeting for the implementation of the Synod on "The appreciation of the Diocesan Synod"

 

This meeting continues the journey with which CELAM accompanies the Churches of Latin America and the Caribbean in receiving the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality. In each session, a number from the document is translated into concrete criteria for the pastoral life of the territories.

Following the meetings dedicated to pastoral councils and ecclesial assemblies, the starting point this time is number 108, dedicated to the Diocesan Synod: the space where the local Church gathers to evaluate its path and discern where to move forward. The underlying question is how to value it as a living tool for discernment, and not as a distant event in the life of the dioceses.

The meeting aims, first of all, to discern the opportunity and necessity of holding Diocesan Synods: when it is appropriate to convene them and what situations in the life of a diocese require them.

From there, the aim will be to define the criteria for convening them and establishing their composition, that is, who participates in them and in what way.

The way of realization and functioning of the Diocesan Synod will also be made explicit, and its periodicity will be addressed. Although the Final Document does not set a deadline, the Synod Assembly recommended holding it every five years, a reference that allows it to be thought of as part of the ordinary journey of the diocese.

Finally, the aim will be to characterize the Diocesan Synod as an opportunity for a global evaluation of pastoral life and as a privileged body to project, in the medium and long term, the evangelizing action in the diocese and in its parishes. 

Understanding it this way allows the Synod to guide the path of the entire local Church in the following years, and not to remain just a document of conclusions.
